Diary of a Beekeepers Wife
The following is a small insight into how we work and live.
March 2012 What happened to the summer? Batten down the hatches for this weekend. Expecting torrential rain. I've packed the car for the market but don't expect to do much selling!! February 2012 Finished extracting the bush honey. Wow what a season so far. Unfortunately the rest of the honey crop doesn't look too good with initial signs being that there is no Manuka. January 2012 Can't believe we are still extracting. December 2011 Still extracting, bush honey going well. Lets hope the other honey is as good. November 2011 Bush honey is flowing in. We have started extracting and hope to have a good season. September 2011 We welcome to our team Tammy Oxenham and Tam Torres. Tammy has worked for us before so knew what she was letting herself in for. She helps us part-time and packs the honey, extracts and helps with maintenance jobs. Tam joins us from the Phillipines. He worked last year in Hawaii as a Queen Breeder/Beekeeper and we look forward to using his experience to help Stephen with the Beekeeping. We have opened an office/shop in New Plymouth at 3 Rosendale Avenue, Spotswood which is open Monday - Friday 9am - 2.30 (reduced hours in the school holidays). So far the shop is working well, I have peace and quiet to work while the children are at school in NP and when we come home it feels like home rather than work/home.. |
